Nicky Hind studied composition at Glasgow University with Graham Hair, and computer music at Stanford University with John Chowning. Prior to that, he had worked in theatre productions with Tom McGrath, and collaborated with choreographers on multimedia works performed at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts. Graduating from Stanford with DMA (1997), he ventured into live electronics, developing a custom system based around the radio baton, a three-dimensional controller.
The solitary, introspective nature of his music has resulted in a number of pieces for solo instrument, with and without electronics, which have been among his most successful works to date. In addition to concert music, he writes music for documentary and feature films. And lives in northern California. He is currently focused on writing for (and playing) the piano.
